Bali Airport Luxury Fleet — Mercedes vs BMW vs Alphard vs Lexus LM

When you book a Bali airport luxury transfer, the vehicle choice is not interchangeable. A Mercedes S-Class is engineered for two passengers in absolute silence; a Toyota Alphard is engineered for four passengers and luggage; a Lexus LM is engineered for VVIP arrivals where the cabin doubles as a moving lounge. Pick the wrong one and you pay too much for too little space, or you end up with a couple sitting in the third row of an MPV they did not need. This guide walks through every vehicle in the Bali luxury fleet — what each does well, what each does badly, and which one fits your specific arrival.

The five main classes (and what they actually do)

1. Mercedes-Benz S-Class — the executive sedan

The Mercedes S-Class is the gold standard of chauffeured travel worldwide and Bali is no exception. We operate the W223 generation (2022 onwards) with the long wheelbase. The cabin is the quietest in the fleet — at 80 km/h on the bypass you can hold a conversation in a whisper. Rear seats recline 43 degrees with calf rests. The massage function actually works. Air suspension absorbs Bali road imperfections (and there are many). Climate is rear-zone independent. Twin USB-C charging.

Best for: Honeymoon couples, business solo travellers, executives arriving from long-haul, anyone who values quiet over space. The classic ‘first hour in Bali’ luxury choice.

Worst for: Families. The boot fits three large suitcases plus two cabin bags. Anything more and you are stuck. Two children in car seats fit but the rear is tight.

Indicative price (Seminyak run): USD 130 · Capacity: 1-2 passengers

2. BMW 7-Series — the sportier alternative

BMW 7-Series (G70 generation) is the German sport-luxury counterpart to the S-Class. Same passenger capacity, different driving feel. The ride is firmer (BMW’s chassis tuning), the rear has twin entertainment screens fold-out, the boot is similar capacity. Often we deploy the 7-Series when the S-Class is booked or when a client specifically requests BMW.

Best for: Clients with a German luxury preference; same use case as the S-Class.

Worst for: Same as the S-Class plus the firmer ride is occasionally noticeable on the rougher stretches of road into Ubud.

Indicative price (Seminyak run): USD 125 · Capacity: 1-2 passengers

3. Toyota Alphard Executive Lounge — the family workhorse

The single most-booked vehicle in our fleet. The Alphard is what made Bali luxury MPV-driven rather than sedan-driven. Three rows, captain seats with footrests in row two, fold-out tables, twin sliding doors, panoramic moonroof. We operate the Alphard 30-series Executive Lounge (2023 onwards). The boot — even with row three deployed — fits four large bags. Fold the third row and you have luggage capacity of a small van.

Best for: Families of four with luggage, three-adult parties, parents with two car seats and a stroller. Also the right pick for the longer Ubud and Bedugul runs because the cabin is roomier than any sedan.

Worst for: A solo executive who wants the absolute quietest cabin — the Alphard is good but the S-Class is quieter. Also too tall for some lower-clearance villa parking gates in Canggu.

Indicative price (Seminyak run): USD 95 · Capacity: 1-4 passengers

4. Toyota Vellfire — Alphard’s twin

Mechanically and dimensionally identical to the Alphard. Different exterior styling (more conservative grille), same interior. We deploy the Vellfire when the Alphard is booked or when a client requests black-on-black exterior styling. Pricing is identical.

Best for: Same as Alphard. Often the more ‘discreet’ choice for celebrity clients.

Indicative price (Seminyak run): USD 95 · Capacity: 1-4 passengers

5. Lexus LM 350h — the VVIP MPV

The Lexus LM is the closest thing to a moving private aircraft cabin that exists at road level. Four-seat configuration with a partition between the chauffeur cabin and the rear lounge, 48-inch theatre screen, ambient sky lighting, individual rear climate, ottoman footrests. We have one in our network with limited availability (often booked weeks ahead by Asian celebrity clients). The price is roughly 60 percent above the Alphard for the same route.

Best for: Celebrity arrivals, royal-family-tier guests, board-of-directors arrivals, ultra-luxury wedding party transfers, very-high-net-worth couples for whom the LM has become a status indicator. Also the right pick for the longest Bedugul and Munduk runs where the cabin doubles as a 3-hour office.

Worst for: Anyone whose only goal is getting from DPS to a villa. The LM is overkill for a 25-minute Nusa Dua run and the price reflects that.

Indicative price (Seminyak run): USD 175 · Capacity: 1-4 passengers

Other vehicles in the network

For larger parties (5-7 passengers), we operate the Hyundai Staria Premier (a quieter alternative to the Alphard for groups) and the Mercedes V-Class (van-style with executive interior, capacity for 7+ luggage). For groups of 8-12 we recommend two-vehicle convoys rather than a coach, both for comfort and so each vehicle can drop at a different villa.

Cabin amenities by vehicle class

Cabin amenities follow a tiered standard across the fleet. The Mercedes E-Class entry tier ships with: chilled bottled water, scented towel, USB charging, wifi, professional chauffeur. The Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series add: massage seats, panoramic moonroof, Burmester or Bowers & Wilkins audio, dual-zone rear climate, and tray tables. The Toyota Alphard Executive Lounge layer adds: captain seats with footrests, panoramic moonroof, fold-out tables, twin sliding doors, and rear-zone climate independence. The Toyota Vellfire matches the Alphard. The Lexus LM 350h ships at the top tier with: full chauffeur partition, 48-inch theatre screen, ambient sky lighting, individual rear climate per seat, ottoman footrests with massage, Mark Levinson 23-speaker audio, electric ottoman and a bar console. Specify any cabin preferences when booking — we adjust if possible.

Fleet age and condition standard

Every vehicle in the fleet is under three years old at time of pickup. After three years a vehicle rotates out of the airport-arrival fleet and into our wider day-private-driver fleet (less time-sensitive, lower mileage). New vehicles cycle in every quarter. Each vehicle is inspected before pickup: tyre pressure, brake feel, air-con cooling capacity at 20-minute test, interior cleanliness, fuel level above 75 percent. We rotate vehicles to a deep-clean depot every fourteen days and replace cabin amenities (water, towels, snacks) before every individual booking — never re-used between clients.

How to choose: a 60-second decision tree

  1. How many adults are arriving? 1-2 adults, no children, light luggage → S-Class or 7-Series. 2 adults + 2 children → Alphard. 3+ adults → Alphard or Vellfire. 4 adults all wanting executive seating → Lexus LM.
  2. How long is the drive? Under 30 minutes (Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Sanur) → vehicle barely matters comfort-wise; pick on price. 60+ minutes (Ubud, Uluwatu, Bedugul) → space matters more; lean Alphard or LM.
  3. What is the occasion? Honeymoon, anniversary, first impressions critical → S-Class or LM. Business meeting → S-Class. Family holiday → Alphard. Group of friends with backpacks → Alphard.
  4. What is your budget delta? Sub-USD 100 budget → Alphard or E-Class. USD 100-200 → S-Class. USD 200+ → LM.

The honest pick for most readers

If you are not sure, the Alphard Executive Lounge is the right pick for 60 percent of arrivals. It does almost everything the S-Class does (silent cabin, professional chauffeur, water amenity), it carries actual family luggage, it costs 25 percent less, and it is the dominant Bali luxury vehicle for a reason. Reserve the S-Class for couples who specifically want a sedan experience. Reserve the Lexus LM for arrivals where image matters more than economy.
